Help for MP3 download

When clicking on download link, the file begins to play vs being saved.

Right-click (Macintosh users, hold down the control key and click the mouse) on the "Download (MP3)" link and a small menu should pop up. Select an item on the menu that says something similar to "Download Link To Disk," "Save Target As," or "Save Link As." Select the location in which you wish to save it, and click "ok."

If you still are experiencing difficulties, it may mean that your browser has a plugin application that is designated to play MP3s automatically when downloaded or when the link is clicked on. The most common culprits are Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and WinAmp. To disable the automatic loading of MP3s in plugin applications, you'll have to find the plugin application settings in your browser, usually in a preferences or options folder. Select "Applications," then focus on the right side of the window. Scroll down the list until you see a "MP3" or "MPEG3" file extension, select it and remove it. The MP3 extension may also be under another heading like Quicktime, Windows Media Player, or Winamp File. It can be different on every system, so that's what makes it difficult. If the Application entry in Preferences for MP3s covers multiple file extensions (or file types), use caution when removing it. You may be able to edit the entry manually and remove the "MP3" extension from the list.

MP3 files are being saved as MPGA files which will not play

The download files ARE mp3's. Your system is set up in such a way that when you go to download mp3's your system is changing the extension. Internet Explorer 6 and the Real One Player are known to do this. The easiest solution is to click on the download link for the mp3 file and when you get the "save as" dialog box go to the filename box and change the extension to .mp3 instead of the automatic .mpga - You may need to have extension viewing enabled on your system to do this.

Another solution is to download a new player that supports the native mp3 format. Winamp is perhaps the best. After you download the player, install it and when it ask you which files to associate with it during the install make sure you select MP3. If the install went correctly then your files should download to mp3 from now on instead of mpga.

If you have Real One Player installed you can try disassociating mp3's with it. You do this by launching the player and then on the top menu bar go to tools and then preferences. Then select Content / Media types. Unclick the boxes next to MP3's and then press ok.
